If you hit a pothole and there is damage to your car, will insurance cover it?

In most cases an insurance company would count damage to a vehicle caused by a pothole as a collision. If you have full coverage, you would pay your collision deductible and then repairs would be made. You have to weigh whether a claim on your insurance history record and the cost of repair is worth the claim. We would recommend getting a free estimate before a claim is made so you can evaluate your options.  Note: If you are currently with a captive insurance agent and call to inquire about a possible claim, they may have to record that inquiry in the system.  This means if you shop insurance down the road, this will show up on the report, even if it is a zero paid claim.  You may look like a higher risk simply because you were inquiring about a possible claim.  One benefit of working with an independent agent is that you can have that conversation with your agent to evaluate your options without it going on your record.
